Women fight off assailant in 'terrifying' street attack

A YOUNG woman was left traumatised after she was assaulted in a city centre in the early hours of the morning.

The 21-year-old was followed through Glasgow city centre and attacked on Wednesday just before 4am. She was with a friend, aged 19, who tried to fight off the attacker and call for help.

The two women were attacked as they walked from Gordon Street to Wellington Street to use a cashpoint.

The man, described as Asian, aged 20-25 years and around 5ft 7in, grabbed the woman, assaulted her and then ran off.

Detective Constable Alyson Bolton, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This was a terrifying attack which could have been much worse had she and her friend not bravely fought off this predator."

The police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
