Woman wins slip claim against bank

A CITY guesthouse owner has been awarded £7500 after slipping on a wet floor in a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland and injuring her ankle.

Patricia O’Donnell, 65, who owns the Armadillo Guest House in Gilmore Place, entered the RBS branch in Home Street, Tollcross on September 28, 2010.

As she made her way to the tellers’ counter to fill in a cheque deposit form, she slipped and fell.

A civil action at Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard that there had been a leak from a flat above the bank premises since February and the bank’s employees had placed a bucket under the area of the leak which was near to where customers queued to be served.

That area was covered in carpet tiles. Five days before the accident, contractors had carried out temporary repairs to try to make the premises safe.
