Woman who stopped runaway bus honoured for bravery

A WOMAN who managed to stop a runaway bus from crashing into oncoming traffic, despite having never owned a driving licence, was among Scots receiving awards for bravery yesterday.

Agnes Crystal from Dundee was one of four people who received a St Andrews Award in recognition of their extraordinary acts of bravery that saved lives.

They were presented with their awards by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at Bute House in Edinburgh.

Ms Sturgeon said: “As we look forward to celebrating St Andrews Day, it is a fitting time to pay homage to four remarkable people who are a real credit – not only to their own friends and family – but to the people of Scotland.”

The winners were chosen from 24 brave individuals recognised at the Brave Heart reception hosted by the Deputy First minister at Edinburgh Castle in October.
