Woman struck by car loses fight for life

A POLICE investigation was continuing last night after a woman, who was knocked down by a car on Aberdeen's Beach Boulevard, died in hospital.

The victim, understood to have been a foreign national in her 20s, died in the city's Royal Infirmary on Monday night. She has not yet been named by the police.

The road between the Beach Ballroom and the East North Street roundabout was closed until yesterday afternoon to allow investigations at the scene.

The 23-year-old driver of the black Renault Clio car was uninjured. Inspector Scott Mann of the force's road policing department said:

"We would obviously ask anyone who witnessed this collision to get in touch."

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old man died yesterday following a crash on the A90 Aberdeen to Perth road at Forfar Road in Dundee.

The man, who is yet to be named, was driving a red Vauxhall Vivaro van. A report is to be sent to the procurator-fiscal.
