Woman shaken as mugger snatches her mobile phone

A WOMAN was left shaken after being assaulted and robbed by a mugger who made off with her mobile phone.

The 30-year-old victim was walking past Blockbuster on South Clerk Street when a man approached and attempted to start a conversation with her.

The woman continually tried to ignore him and walked towards Nicolson Street.

As the woman pulled out her phone, she was pushed by the suspect who snatched the handset and made off on to Rankeillor Street following the incident at around 6.15am on Friday.

The suspect is described as black, between 6ft 2in and 6ft 3in tall with a slim athletic build, short black hair and a clean shaven face. He was wearing a beige T-shirt.

A police spokesman said: "The victim was left understandably shaken and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in or around Nicolson Street around 6.15am on Friday morning and anyone who might recognise the description of the suspect."
