Woman rescued from car after A71 rush hour crash

A woman has been rescued from her car after a rush-hour collision.

Emergency services were forced to close the A71 and A704 this morning after the woman’s car slipped off the road, causing minor injury.

The incident occurred just after 8.40am Monday morning between West Calder and Breich.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said that only one car had been involved in the accident, and that the driver’s injuries had been minor.

“The road was closed for a short period of time so that the fire service could safely extract the female from her vehicle,” she said.

“That is still very much an ongoing incident.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service added the woman had been safely removed from her vehicle by 9.22am, and was not seriously injured.

An ambulance was on-site, and rushed the woman to Western General Hospital for treatment.

The road was said to have reopened by 10am.
