Woman killed on A90 was hit by several cars

POLICE are continuing to investigate a horrific accident in which a female pedestrian was killed after being struck by a number of vehicles on a dual carriageway.

The woman who died, who has still to be named, was killed at 6:15pm on Thursday on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead dual carriageway near Ellon in Aberdeenshire.

Grampian Police said the woman, understood to be from the Ellon area, had initially been struck by a Renault car on the northbound carriageway but that it was likely she had then been struck by other vehicles on both sides of the carriageway.

The busy commuter route remained closed until lunchtime yesterday to allow crash-scene investigators and forensic teams to carry out an examination of the scene of the crash on the Tipperty section of the route.

The carriageway was closed between Ellon and Foveran and a series of diversions were put in place until the road could be re-opened.

Police said yesterday that the force was investigating reports that the woman, who had been wearing a purple jacket, was seen walking on the A90 between Ellon and Tipperty earlier on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesman said the woman had been killed near Bridgend, Tipperty. He said: “It is likely she has been struck by other vehicles potentially both north and southbound.”
