Woman in 80ft cliff fall

A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital last night after she plunged 80ft down a cliff at the end of her garden.

A rescue operation was launched at about 7:30pm after the 45-year-old fell and landed on the shore beside the Firth of Tay in Wormit, Fife.

The tide was coming in and rescuers battled to get her to safety before the water reached her. Initially, an ambulance was sent, but the crew could not get to her, and the operation was passed to Forth Coastguard.

A helicopter was scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth and the woman was winched onboard.

She was flown to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, thought to be suffering from serious back and head injuries.
