Woman found dead after Hawick house fire

Police are investigating the death of a woman after a house fire in the Borders.

Officers were called to a property in Hawick’s Fisher Avenue at around 4pm on Wednesday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “The body of a 45-year-old woman was found within the property and a joint investigation between the police and fire service is under way to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”

Meanwhile in Aberdeen, a man was taken to hospital in the early hours of Thursday after a flat fire in the city’s George Street.

Fire crews responded to the blaze at around 5.15am.
