Woman found dead after flats fire is named

A WOMAN who was found dead in a flat following a fire in the building has been named as Amanda Thomson, 24.

Firefighters and police were called to a Glasgow building at around 6:30am yesterday morning. Residents, including the victim's mother and boyfriend, were evacuated from the building in Glenavon Road, Maryhill, Glasgow.

Two woman required medical treatment for minor injuries.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said investigations into the cause of the fire were ongoing. However, there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

The Scottish Ambulance Service sent three vehicles to the scene and one woman was taken to hospital, a spokesman for the service said.

"One other female was treated for smoke inhalation and one woman was treated for a minor burn," the spokesman added.

Detective Inspector Simon Midgley, from Strathclyde Police's Maryhill Police Office, said: "Our investigation is at an early stage and we are working with our colleagues in Strathclyde Fire and Rescue to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact Strathclyde Police."
