Woman dies after flat blaze

A WOMAN has died after being caught in a severe blaze in her flat in Edinburgh on Sunday afternoon.

Julie Fergus, 45, suffered serious burns and although firefighters rescued her from the blaze she later died from her injuries at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Several members of the public called the fire service after seeing the flames in the first-floor flat in Granton, shortly after 5pm.

A team of 15 firefighters arrived at the scene and used two high-pressure hoses to extinguish the fire. The blaze did not spread to neighbouring flats.

A police spokesman said there was no apparent grounds for suspicion.
