Woman dies in Aberdeen house fire

A WOMAN has died after an early morning blaze in a house in the West End of Aberdeen.

The body of the woman was found in the blazing house in the city’s Gillespie Crescent by firefighters who were called to the scene shortly before 5.30am.

Around 20 firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, tackled the blaze.

Fraser Burr, the group manager with Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire crews had been meet by an established fire within the house.

He said: “We immediately committed crews wearing breathing apparatus to search the property and to extinguish the fire and, as part of the search, they came across a confirmed fatality.”

A spokesman for Grampian Police said enquiries were continuing to establish the identity of the woman who died.

He added: “The cause of the fire is currently being treated as unexplained. A joint fire investigation will now be launched by the police and fire service. Grampian Police are appealing for anyone with any information relating to this incident to contact them.”
