Woman cleared of murder attempt charge walks free

A WOMAN accused of stabbing another woman during a fight has walked free from court after a judge threw out attempted murder charges against her.

Nicola Burns, 28, was on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh charged with repeatedly stabbing victim Lisa Ramsay in a property in Oxgangs Place on October 29, 2011.

Burns, of Tytler Gardens, Abbeyhill, denied she was responsible for the life-threatening injuries which saw Ms Ramsay rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Judge Lady Scott yesterday ruled that there was no case to answer following a motion by defence solicitors.

The judge cited conflicting accounts of the incident given by the victim and other witnesses as factors behind her ruling.

Burns had also been facing charges of repeatedly punching and kicking Ms Ramsay on the head and body. The court earlier heard from a doctor who said the three wounds to Ms Ramsay’s back appeared to be stab wounds from a knife.
