Woman, 86, robbed by bogus callers

A PAIR of bogus callers who tricked their way into the home of an 86-year-old woman by claiming they had to test her water supply stole a four-figure sum of cash from the elderly victim.

Police in East Lothian are now urging residents to be on their guard against bogus callers following the incident.

The men called at the pensioner's home in the Monktonhall area of Musselburgh at around 4.30pm on Saturday.

They claimed to be there to test her water supply and while one of the men distracted her, the other stole the cash from her bedroom.

Both suspects are described as white, around 30 years old, clean shaven, and wearing workman's clothes.

A police spokesman said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in the Monktonhall area on Saturday, who were either approached by the two suspects, or who noticed them in the area, to contact police."
