An elderly woman was taken to hospital after being knocked down by a Royal Mail van as she crossed the road.

Police said the collision happened at about 11.20am yesterday on Main Street in Davidson’s Mains, Edinburgh.
The woman, 83, was taken to the city’s Royal Infirmary where she was treated for a head injury. Her condition was said to have improved since yesterday.
