Woman, 77, killed in three-vehicle crash in Dumfries and Galloway

A PENSIONER died in a three-vehicle road crash involving a van and a tractor, police said today.

The 77-year-old woman died in an accident on the A701 Dumfries to Edinburgh road, near the St Ann's to Johnstonebridge road, in Dumfries and Galloway shortly before 7pm yesterday.

Her red Ford Fiesta was in collision with the van and the tractor.

The male drivers of the other vehicles, aged 26 and 44, and the woman's passenger were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The passenger, a 78-year-old man, sustained "serious injuries" but police said his condition is not life threatening.

The driver of the tractor, 44, did not sustain any injuries in the collision but was suffering from shock. The van driver, 26, sustained slight injuries.
