Witnesses sought over road rage attack

POLICE are hunting a man over a rush hour road rage attack on the hard shoulder of a motorway.

The incident happened close to junction three of the M56 in Wythenshawe, south Manchester.

The drivers of a red Ford Fiesta and a dark Volkswagen people carrier pulled up after a collision and argued over whose fault it was.

A passenger from the people carrier then got out and sprayed an unknown substance into the face of the Fiesta owner, which temporarily blinded him. He tried to defend himself, but was hit in the leg before the men drove off.

Police described the driver as being in his 30s and around 5ft 8in tall. He was wearing a grey t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms. His passenger was in his 20s and about 5ft 9in tall. He was wearing a red Ralph Lauren Polo t-shirt during the incident, which happened at around 5.30pm on 5 April.

Pc Kate Patterson, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "The attack took place just a few yards away from the inside lane of the motorway during rush hour, and it is lucky the victim was not permanently injured. We believe a number of motorists saw the altercation as the victim said they were sounding their horns as they passed and I would urge anyone who may have seen something to contact us."
