Witness appeal after underpass robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in the east of Edinburgh which they believe may be linked to an earlier attack.

The latest incident happened around 10.30pm on Tuesday in the Milton Link area.

A 20-year-old woman was pushed against a wall in the underpass by two men who robbed her of her handbag before running off towards Asda.

The victim returned home before reporting the matter to police.

Detectives believe this robbery is linked to a similar incident in the area at from the weekend.

A 50-year-old have a go heroine was walking along the rear footpath of Fort Kinnaird and onto Magdalane Glen at around 5.15 on Sunday when two men approached and attempted to rob her of her bag.

During the struggle, which ensued, the woman used her cigarette to burn the hand of one of the men before slapping the other and the fleeing along Magdalane Glen.

Police are now keen to hear from anyone who can assist with their enquiries into either of these incidents.

The first suspect is described as white, around 5ft 6ins tall and wearing dark clothing.

The second is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall and also wearing dark clothing.

During the robbery on Wednesday both men were also wearing woollen hats and gloves.

Detective Constable John McShane said: “The description of the suspects and the manner of both attacks are similar and we are looking into the possibility that the same two men are responsible.

“Fortunately neither woman was injured during either incident, but were, nevertheless, left understandably shaken as a result.

“Anyone who recognises the description of these men or remembers seeing any suspicious activity in the area, either over the weekend or on Wednesday night, is asked to contact police immediately.”
