Witness appeal after teen killed on M8

POLICE have appealed for witnesses following the death of teenager on the M8 near Harthill.

Just after 9pm on Sunday night, the 18-year-old was walking along the westbound carriageway when he was hit by a lorry. Emergency services attended but the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. No-one else was injured.

The M8 was closed to traffic for almost six hours after the accident.

Sergeant Iain Sneddon, from the Road Policing Department at Motherwell Police Office, last night asked for information on the crash from motorists.

He said: "Anyone who witnessed the road crash or who has any information on the circumstances should contact Road Policing Department."

He added that relatives had been informed about the death.
