Wiping out child trafficking a top priority, says Salmond

First Minister Alex Salmond has said he places "the highest priority" on eradicating child trafficking in Scotland.

A report published earlier this week revealed that at least 80 children may have been trafficked into Scotland in 18 months, without anyone being convicted for the crimes.

When asked in Holyrood what resources the Scottish Government had in place to tackle the issue, Mr Salmond said: "We have given an additional 4 million to the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency to help them address trafficking and other organised criminal activities.

"We have strengthened the support to victims with annual funding of 50,000 for an innovative pilot scheme which will provide guardians to the victims of child trafficking.

"We have also put in place comprehensive new guidance to support the child trafficking and child protection units."
