Windfarm builder's record profit

The civil engineering firm whose biggest contract is to build infrastructure for the 60-turbine Crystal Rig II windfarm in East Lothian has announced record profits.

Jones Bros, which has an office at Linlithgow, expanded by almost one quarter last year, in defiance of the recession.

The firm reported turnover up 21 per cent to 46.3m in the year to 31 March 2010. Pre-tax profit rose by 33 per cent to 2m.

Jones Bros beat off tough competition to win the two-year 19m Crystal Rig II contract. Contracts in Scotland, where the firm is also building infrastructure for a wind farm at Tullo, near Aberdeen, now total 27 per cent of turnover.

Managing director Huw Jones said: "We had another year of further solid progress, despite the economic recession and a very competitive market.

"A big area of expansion for us was the energy sector."
