Widow leaves more than £2m to animal charities

A WEALTHY Scottish landowner, who was married to a descendant of one of the most prominent poets of the Victorian era, has left more than £2 million to charity in her will.

She was the widow of Colonel Ronald Moulton-Barrett, the grandson of the youngest brother of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the celebrated Victorian poet.

Mrs Moulton-Barrett has bequeathed around 2.25m of her estate to a number of charities, including Guide Dogs for the Blind, the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals, and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
