Welsh slams TV fund ‘joke’

TRAINSPOTTING author Irvine Welsh has attacked the decision to spend £15,000 of public money on a TV cookery show as “a joke”.

Arts funding body Creative Scotland has awarded £170,000 to STV over three years and £14,900 will be spent on the 20-part Country Show Cook Off.

Scottish Review editor Kenneth Roy asked: “Why do they need public support to turn out routine commercial tat?”

And Mr Welsh added on Twitter: “Kenneth Roy is correct to be outraged. What a joke.”
