Welcome return to summer forecast

SCOTLAND is set to see a return to summer this week, with dry weather and temperatures over 20C, forecasters predict.

While predictions of a mini Indian summer have been made for parts of the UK – with temperatures topping 26C – Scotland will see highs of a slightly more modest 21C by the middle of the week.

After recent rain storms and high winds, the arrival of warmer weather will be welcomed across many areas of Scotland with hopes it could last almost all week.

Forecaster Peter Sloss, from the Met Office in Aberdeen, said: “A chunk of Scotland is going to see the warm weather.

“Towards the west coast and north-west it is still quite an unsettled outlook into next week, but for most of the population centres it will be southerly winds and warm air coming up from the south as well. For Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness temperatures will be well above average.”

Sloss said some areas could see temperatures of up to 20 or 21C, compared with the average for this time of year of around 14C in Scotland.

After some rain over the weekend, Scotland will see conditions improving from Monday with no rain expected in most areas and mainly dry conditions.

“It looks like the middle of the week will see temperatures up into the 20s. We might even sneak a 22C,” Sloss said.

The good weather is expected to last until the end of the week, though cooler temperatures could return to some parts. Met Office forecaster Tom Morgan, said: “We are certainly going to see some dry and unseasonably warm spells.”
