Weight-loss firm bulks up

A WEIGHT-LOSS company based in the Capital is preparing to expand after enjoying a big upturn in demand.

Diet Chef expects to take on 12 new staff after a big jump in sales of its calorie- controlled meals, which are delivered directly to customers.

It follows a major publicity drive on TV and radio, while clinical tests are currently taking place that could boost sales further.

The firm, which has been supported by Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International since being launched in 2008, achieved turnover of 9.5 million in 2010 and expects that to rise to 16m this year.

Scottish Government enterprise minister Fergus Ewing and Scottish Enterprise chairman Crawford Gillies were due to visit the firm today to hear about its growth plans.

Co-founder Andrew Veitch said: "Maintaining a healthy weight and reducing the rate of obesity in the western world are major public health concerns. We can help tackle these issues and offer a real solution."
