The number of street parties that will be held in the Capital on the day of the royal wedding has been boosted to 16.

Last week the Evening News reported on plans for nine parties but since then residents in Craiglockhart, Muirhouse, Gilmerton, the Meadows, Murrayfield and Fountainbridge have also applied to for permission to host events.

Lord Provost George Grubb said: "Street parties are a great way to bring communities together and I'm sure there will be a lovely festive atmosphere in neighbourhoods across the city on Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding day."
