WEBHEADLINE: Flooding hits trains and power

XXXXFlooding wreaked havoc for Scotland’s long-suffering commuters yesterday – and the Met Office warned more thundery rain is on the way.

The delays came just a day after drivers were caught in 13-mile tailbacks due to a serious accident on the M8 motorway.

Heavy overnight downpours in Glasgow yesterday flooded Dalmarnock railway station in the east end, forcing the cancellation of rush-hour services on the Argyle Line into the city centre.

A power cut hit 300 homes in the Giffnock area of East Renfrewshire due what engineers believe could be heavy rain seeping into the cable network.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency issued flood watches for many eastern parts of the country and a more serious warning for Arbroath.

Meanwhile, 70,000 music fans heading for T in the Park this weekend have been warned to pack their wellies. A weather station next to the site at Balado yesterday registered almost an inch of rain, which weathermen say will have softened up the ground.

Ian Robinson of the Met Office in Aberdeen said: “Thundery showers on Thursday could produce 10mm of rain in any given area. I would take my wellies to T in the Park. They have had an inch of rain today and if they get more showers it will only add to the problem.”
