Weather in Scotland: forecast predicts a rise in temperatures and bright sunshine this weekend

Although some parts of the country will be cooler along the coast, most parts will feel warm in the sunshine, with clear skies.

What’s the weather like this weekend?

Friday (24 April) will be dry and sunny with just some high cloud at times. Low cloud and some haar is expected to spread southwards into some areas later. Maximum temperature of 19C.

Friday evening will see low cloud spreading further south and also inland towards the Border counties, with haar likely around the east coast. It will staying largely clear and dry across Dumfries and Galloway. Minimum temperature of 2C.

Saturday (25 April) will see “Low cloud retreating quickly to the east coast through the morning, leading to some good sunny spells through the afternoon,” explains the Met Office.

Patchy cloud will bubble up further west, but it will stay dry. Maximum temperature of 18C.

It will be cloudy, with the risk of an isolated shower on Sunday (26 April).

What will be the weather be like into the start of next week?

It will turning much more showery on Monday and into Tuesday, with some turning heavy in the west. It will also feeling cooler.

What’s the long-range forecast?

The Met Office UK forecast for Tuesday 28 April to Thursday 7 May explains that “Tuesday will be generally cloudy with some sunny spells and the risk of showers, or perhaps some heavier downpours of rain, for many parts of the UK.”

It will be breezy in the north. Continuing through next week confidence becomes low but it looks to be generally more unsettled. There will still be periods of fine and dry weather with sunshine, but there with be a greater chance of showers or at times some longer spells of rain developing, especially in the south at first.

Then, moving into early May there is a chance of seeing more organised bands of rain arriving into the west with showers, perhaps heavy and blustery, in the north. Temperatures will be above average to start, but becoming a little cooler with the chance of overnight frosts in the north.

Stay at home

The Met Office has previously reminded the public to “please remember, despite the sunny weather, during this Coronavirus crisis the Government advice is to only go outside for food, health reasons or work, to stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people and to wash your hands regularly.”

Current government guidance is to only leave the house for very limited purposes, which are:

shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.

one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.

any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.

travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.
