Shetland weather: Met Office issues Yellow warning for high winds

Forecasters have warned the public of “severe gales” on the Scottish Islands

The Yellow warning, which is in place from 6am to 3pm today, predicts that high winds could cause travel disruption for Shetlanders.

Winds of up to 70mph are expected to hit the isles later today, along with scattered rain and snow showers.

Met Office experts told the public that delays to road, air, and ferry transport were likely, and that short-term power cuts were possible.

They asked the public to take care while driving, as strong wings can unsettle vehicles.
