Met Office issue heavy rain weather warnings for parts of Scotland

Glasgow, Greenock, Kilmarnock and Dumfries will all see plenty of rain.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning across western Scotland, with heavy rain likely to cause transport delays and road flooding.

The weather warning has been issued between 1am Friday and 3am Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “An Atlantic frontal system is moving quickly into the UK today resulting in rain, which will be heavy at times.

“A yellow severe weather warning for rain has been issued for parts of Western Scotland and rain totals are expected to reach 20 to 30 mm quite widely within the warning area, and in some localised isolated areas as much as 50 mm, especially over high ground.

“The rain will ease then clear this evening with patchy lighter rain expected overnight.

“An area of low pressure is expected to develop over the Atlantic and track eastwards across central Scotland during Sunday with strong winds developing across a large swathe of the UK.

“A yellow severe weather warning for wind has been issued for Sunday covering parts of Scotland and northern England.

“Gusts of 50-60 mph are expected with a risk of severe gales around coasts and through the Central Belt.”
