'It filled up the whole sky' - Watch incredible footage of lightning strikes above Sighthill in Edinburgh

Video footage shows the incredible moment a series of lightning strikes lit up the sky above part of Edinburgh on Friday night.

Jamie Mackinnon captured the burst of lightning, close to Calder Road in the Sighthill area, just after 10pm on Friday.

He told the Evening News: "I was so shocked I had caught it. I had never seen a lightning strike that almost looked like three or four different strikes in one, if that makes sense.

"It filled up the whole sky and the thunder after was pretty intense too."

A Met Office yellow 'be aware' warning for thunderstorms was in place on Friday and further weather warnings for rain across Scotland have been issued today. Sepa has also issued a raft of flood alerts across the country.

According to the Met Office website, thunderstorms are forecast again in Edinburgh this afternoon at about 3pm.
