Amazing pictures show Edinburgh snowboarder perfecting jumps off Pentland Hills

The wintry weather across Edinburgh has brought out a bit of snow sportsmanship in its residents, but for the professionals who can’t jet-set off to the mountains this year, it’s allowed them to practise their tricks closer to home.

Will Nangle, a photographer and filmmaker, has been out in the Pentland Hills photographing ex-professional snowboarder Scott McMorris, doing jumps off the snowy slopes.

The pair, both from Scotland’s capital, would normally be travelling to the mountains at this time of year but, due to lockdown, they have been restricted to the hills in and around Edinburgh.

That, however, has been no bad thing.

With the city waking up to blankets of fresh snow this week, the urban dwellers have been able to take to the surrounding slopes to keep up their passions in lockdown.

"The snow has been incredible this winter which has made being stuck in Edinburgh much better,” 30-year-old Will said.

The freelance cameraman, who regularly films snowboarders and other adventure sports, took the photographs of Scott on Friday afternoon.

He said the blue sky and recent snowfall made perfect conditions for a good picture.

"I have never seen this much snow in Edinburgh before,” he added.

"We carried shovels up to make a jump and it worked really well.”

The Capital is bracing itself for the last two days of icy weather with below zero temperatures after a week of Storm Darcy.

The Met Office said the city will see lows of -3C on Saturday and warned that it will feel as cold as -9C at certain points over the weekend, but temperatures will warm up on Sunday.
