Water scare shuts Leith pool

SWIMMERS at Leith Waterworld were evacuated from the pool after some of them complained of stinging eyes and reddened skin.

Staff ordered the pool, described as "absolutely mobbed", to be cleared yesterday afternoon.

One customer said: "People were complaining about their eyes stinging and saying their breathing was a bit funny. My skin was getting red.

"There must have been over 100 people in the pool at the time. One of the attendants said there was too much chlorine in the water."

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Leisure said: "We were unable to resolve this situation at the time and had no option but to close the pool and ask our customers to leave."
