Water plant project flush with success

SCOTTISH Water has completed a £10-million upgrade of the Marchbank Water Treatment Works as part of a two-year redevelopment project.

The Balerno plant will supply clearer, fresher drinking water to more than 130,000 residents in Leith, Granton, Colinton and West Lothian.

Its advanced "dissolved air flotation" process will allow the water board to process raw water to a better standard and to treat more of it.

Project manager Ian Morton said: "This has been a challenging project, but one that we are very proud of. Not only will this benefit more than 130,000 customers locally, but it will also help to boost the Capital's important tourism trade.

"Together with our investment at Glencorse, this will improve the quality of drinking water to more than half a million people across Edinburgh and the Lothians, and we are delighted to play a part in that."
