Watch: Three huge fires break out on Scottish island of Barra
Crews were joined by were joined by the Coastguard, RNLI volunteers and members of the public as they desperately tried to stop the four-mile spread reaching residential areas.
One house had to be evacuated after the flames were first reported at 7.38pm last night. They are believed to have burned until 7.45am this morning.
The cause of the fires is not yet known.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish fire and rescue service said: “We attended three wildfires overnight in Barra.
“The fires were all in close proximity to one another.
“We received the reports of fires at 7.38pm, 11.15pm and 5.40am.
“Currently all three fires have been extinguished, but fire services will continue to check the sites through out the day to make sure they don’t reignite.”
