Warnings over Ayrshire power station plan

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a massive coal-fired power station at Hunterston in Ayrshire have been given a "major thumbs-down" by two environmental watchdogs.

Yesterday Scottish Natural Heritage warned that the environmental damage the proposal would cause would be "significant", while the Scottish Environment Protection Agency called for additional information on possible environmental impacts.

Both agencies warned of a lack on clarity on several aspects of the scheme.
