Warning as thieves raid garden sheds

THIEVES have raided nearly 30 garden sheds during a spate of break-ins, with bikes, alcohol and gardening equipment among the property stolen.

A dozen break-ins have been reported to police at the new Windygoul estates in Tranent in East Lothian over May and June, while 14 reports have been received in areas throughout Gorebridge in Midlothian during the same period.

Police said inquiries are ongoing to determine the amount of items stolen during these thefts, but the property taken is estimated to be worth 2,000.

Police are now asking the public to make sure sheds remain locked and that access to garden areas is restricted for unwelcome visitors.

A police spokesman said: "Our inquiries continue to locate those responsible for these thefts and we are keeping an open mind to all lines of inquiry."
