Warning over bogus callers

POLICE today warned the public to be on their guard against bogus callers after a con man pretending to be from the council robbed a woman in her 80s of her savings.

Officers said the man told her he had come to check a water problem on the street. After he got inside her house, a second man came in and stole the "substantial" sum of money.

The suspect is white, between 30 and 40 years old, with short dark brown hair, and dark clothing. He had an Irish accent.
