Warning after cats mutilated

The Scottish SPCA has told pet owners in Helensburgh to be on guard after two cats were found with injuries to their tails which have been described as “suspicious”.

The charity was contacted by owners after one of the animals arrived home bleeding on 15 March. He was rushed to a vet for emergency treatment. Another cat was reported to have returned home in the same area with a degloved tail – where the skin is peeled back from the underlying tissue.

Senior inspector Nicki Scott said: “The vet is puzzled at these incidents but said it is very unusual to see two similar injuries in such a short space of time.”
