Voters choose competition swimming pool for school

The new Lasswade High is set to receive a 25m, six-lane competition pool after the local community voted it as their preferred option for a swimming pool within the school.

A survey was carried out in August and September at Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre, Lasswade Community High School and Lasswade High School Sports Centre, as well as all the feeder primary schools in the Lasswade High School catchment area.

The options were a 25m six-lane competition pool with shallow and deep ends which could include partial public use during the school day and "inflatable" fun sessions programmed for outwith the school day; a leisure pool with an integrated 12.8m learner pool and a 20m four-lane pool of uniform depth and with a separate baby pool.

Midlothian council leader Derek Milligan said: "Sixty-five per cent of respondents opted for the 25m six-lane pool as their preferred option."
