Volunteers inspired to have a taste

Volunteer Centre Edinburgh and Young Scot have launched a new Youth Volunteering Taster Programme for young people, aiming to inspire a new generation of volunteers in the Capital.

The new programme offers young people one-off volunteering opportunities in a range of different roles which last for between two and four hours.

All taster sessions will take place between August and December 2011, and once completed the Volunteer Centre will offer continued support to the young volunteers who wish to proceed in finding a long-term voluntary placement.

Paul Wilson, Volunteer Centre deputy director, said: "Many young people see volunteering as boring, inaccessible or irrelevant.

"Volunteering tasters are an excellent way to let these young people dip their toes in the water and see what it is really all about - the exciting variety of opportunities available."
