Volunteers get the litter bug at beach

AROUND 50 volunteers helped clean up Cramond beach at the weekend as part of a national drive.

The Beachwatch Big Weekend was organised by the Marine Conservation Society in a bid to banish rubbish from the coastline.

The volunteers and local residents picked up and recorded litter from a 100-metre stretch of Cramond beach.

The last MCS beach clean at Cramond, held in June, saw 38 volunteers remove an astonishing 141.5kg of litter.

An Adopt-a-Beach event is now being planned for Cramond in January.
