Volunteer Michelle to be honoured

A CLASSROOM assistant with the charity Access to Industry is to be named Edinburgh's Inspiring Volunteer of the Year.

Michelle Lindsay helps with the Passport Project, which helps people moving out of care, prison, substance abuse, homelessness or street sex work.

Her work will be recognised at a ceremony at the City Chambers on May 24, when Lord Provost George Grubb will present 50 volunteers with certificates in recognition of their achievements.

The ceremony has been organised by Volunteer Centre Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Compact Partnership to tie in with Volunteers Week, which begins on June 1.

Cllr Grubb said: "Michelle certainly is an 'Inspiring Volunteer' and worthy of the 2011 Award, on its own her contribution and commitment to the lives of young people."
