Voices lifted in praise as Scottish pupils take home coveted choir title

Edinburgh Academy's fine performance on Songs of Praise last night won them the School Choir of the Year competition.

The school was one of three taking part in the final at Sheffield Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall, broadcast on BBC1.

Angus Tully, the school's choir master, said: "It's the first time a Scottish school has won this competition, so it's celebrations all round. Within the school community we've always known the Academy has a strength in music, so it's great to have that confirmed nationally in a competition of such high calibre. In short, I'm chuffed to bits."
