Visitors shun hand washes

HOSPITAL visitors are the worst offenders for not washing their hands, shunning warnings over the spread of superbugs, health chiefs have said.

NHS Lothian non-executive member George Walker said: "The law has been laid down to staff, but what monitoring is there for visitors?

New member Billy Peacock said visitors at St John's in Livingston gave "every excuse under the sun" as to why they wouldn't wash their hands.
