Vintage car’s driver seriously hurt in crash

A VINTAGE car enthusiast was seriously injured after his Morgan Plus 4 car was in collision with another vehicle on a Borders road.

The 56-year-old had to be cut free from the wreckage of the 1950s classic sports car, along with a 53-year-old woman, after the crash involving a Skoda Octavia on the A703 road north of Peebles on Friday night.

The driver of the Skoda also had to be released from his vehicle.

All three were taken 20 miles by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where the condition of the 56-year-old man was said to be serious.

The collision happened two miles north of Peebles at around 9pm.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “The male and female in one of the cars were severely trapped by their legs and received oxygen therapy.” Firefighters had to use cutting gear to free the couple trapped in the Morgan Plus 4.

The A703 road north of Peebles was closed for five hours.
