Victory party for campaign over carers

A PARTY is to be held to celebrate the success of a campaign to put a halt to plans to re-tender services for some of Edinburgh's most vulnerable people.

Under the city council's plans last year, nearly 800 people would have needed to find a new carer.

But the council abandoned the plans after a huge protest from carers, people who receive care and representative groups – who all had concerns about the re-tendering process and the impact it would have on service users.

An independent report by Deloitte also found that the tender process was "not as meticulous or as thorough" as it should have been.

Now Garvald Edinburgh – one of the existing providers – is to host a party for those who campaigned against the plans.

The party is to be held in the St Bride's Centre on Orwell Terrace in Dalry on May 28 from 7-11pm.

The event will feature live music, games, a DJ and a raffle.
