Victim's front teeth kicked out in brutal street assault

A MAN had his front teeth kicked out and may be scarred for life following an assault in the city centre.

The 21-year-old victim was involved in an argument with a group of men at around 3.25am on Sunday during which he was punched in the face.

He fell to the ground unconscious, and the group ran off, before the main suspect returned and kicked the victim's head as he lay on the ground. He then ran off eastwards along George Street.

Police praised passers-by who came to the man's aid and called emergency services.

They said the victim had required several visits to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, as his injuries were extremely serious, and may leave him scarred for life.

They are examining CCTV footage of the incident and have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the incident to come forward.

The main suspect is described as white, in his early 20s, with medium-length blond hair and a slim build.

A police spokesman said: "The victim suffered serious injuries as a result of this assault, and we are appealing for information that can help us trace the suspect.

"We know that there were a number of people who came to the victim's aid as he lay on the ground, and we are appealing for any of those who helped to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"Similarly, anyone else who witnessed the assault, or who recognises the description of the suspect, should also get in touch."

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131-311 3131.
