Victim left unconscious after gang attack

POLICE are hunting a gang of up to eight men who launched an attack on a victim who was left unconscious in the street with head injuries.

The 26-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Newmills Road in Dalkeith.

The victim was set upon by the group of men, who then headed off in the direction of Dalkeith town centre. The man was taken to the ERI for treatment to his head wounds.

The incident took place at around 11pm on Saturday, but detectives were only able to speak to the victim yesterday as he continued his recovery. A police spokesman said: "This was a particularly nasty assault that left the victim unconscious, and requiring hospital treatment.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, to contact police immediately."
