‘Vibrant’ rally in protest of energy prices

PROTESTERS are set to hold a rally in the Capital over “rip-off” energy bills.

Organisers from the Edinburgh Tenants Federation Fuel Poverty Campaign said new schemes were needed to help the thousands of Scots who couldn’t afford to heat their homes during winter.

A spokesman said: “We will be raising awareness about the issues surrounding rip-off energy bills, and our campaign to get the council to implement a bulk-buy energy scheme to save us money on our bills.

“Two thousand Scots die each year because of rip-off energy prices – and we are all struggling to pay the bills.”

A 15-piece Samba band will join protesters outside the Scottish Gas HQ on Waterfront Avenue in Granton on Friday, February 15 at 1pm.

The spokesman added: “We hope it will be a vibrant and exciting demonstration.”
